One of the most time consuming projects I made before my son was born, was a set of nautical baskets for his room. I got the idea from positivelysplendid.com (see photo). Their baskets were so cute! Of course, I got to thinking that I really wanted to completely cover the boxes in navy blue fabric instead of having the two-toned look. I adjusted the directions to increase the length of the fabric that comes down the outsides of the box taking many calculations before I started cutting any fabric since I planned on making 6 boxes. Crazy, right? The storage has been well worth it as my son's room still doesn't require a dresser!
I must have been putting on the details in January, because the Christmas ribbon was WAY on clearance and this dark red shade was perfect for my baskets! Of course I had do teach myself how to tie a figure eight knot to complete the baskets with some decorative rope and the knot does actually function as a handle for the basket when it is on the shelf. The diaper boxes are still very sturdy for storing socks, shoes, diapers, wipes, diaper genie refills, blankets, clothes, and just about any other item that will fit in them. I had so much fun making these baskets even if it was very time consuming and I really feel like they pulled the room together.
These photos were taken before my son was born. There is WAY more stuff on those shelves now including a diaper changing mat in the center with a laundry hamper and trash can below - gotta keep it functional, right? The baskets are still in the same place though!
