Redecorating can cost a LOT of money, but if you follow a few simple steps, you can get a look you love while saving money!
The first step is to chose a color palate. I chose teal, gray and yellow as I wanted a bright and contemporary look for this bedroom. I found a great sample palate (left) on Pinterest to get me started.
Painting walls can be quite expensive and is not always an option if you are renting. If you can get by with keeping the current wall color, and can incorporate it into your color palate, you will save money. You can still get a dramatic look by choosing bold colors for other items in the room and get that "pop-or-color" look that is so popular!

The second step to saving money is to reuse things you already have. I had an old desk from Walmart that cost about $45 when it was new. It looked AWFUL! The black color on top was worn off where arms rested and it also had some water damage from cups resting on it. I wish I had a picture of it before, but you will have to trust me on how terrible it looked. It was made of gray plastic and black painted particle board.
I also had an old office chair that we weren't using anymore. It was also black. I liked the overall feel of the chair with a mesh back, but did not think a black chair would work with my color palate.

Step three is to choose where you want the biggest focal point of the room to be. This will likely be where you spend the most money. My choice for the focal point in a small bedroom was the bed, so I did purchase a new bed set, but I saved a few dollars by purchasing the whole set from Big Lots for $60.
Step four is my favorite step: Get your pops of color! I picked up several items from the dollar store including the yellow baskets and feathery sticks in the vase. The vases were also dollar store purchases with some paint from Walmart for less than $1. The frames on the wall were from the dollar store as well, and looked much better with a coat of spray paint in my palate colors.
I sanded and spray painted the desk. The legs were already the gray color that I wanted, so I just taped them and sprayed the rest. I included a clear coat of spray on the top of the desk so it should not scratch as easily. I also spray painted the chair. A risky move, but I love the way it turned out!

Step five: Sit back and relax in your new room!

In case you were wondering where the curtains came from, those were given to me by my in-laws since they came with their house and they did not want them. Adding curtains to your room can be an added cost, but there are lots of great tutorials on how to make your own curtains using bed sheets, fabric, and re-purposing curtains you already have.
